Paper AI Terms

An apology

From day one we promised that the text of your notes stays on your device and in your Google Drive. We know many people chose Paper because of that, and we want to look at the people who trusted us and say it plainly: Paper AI breaks that promise, only for what you send to it, and we apologize.

The reason is simple and not glamorous. We are just starting out. Running a good AI model takes very expensive computers, and we cannot pay for or maintain that yet. Today we cannot host AI models of our own. So that you can have a decent AI in your notebook without waiting years, we use an outside provider.

We intend to depend on it less as Paper grows. When we can run models ourselves, Paper AI will run inside our own infrastructure and we will tell you before anything changes. Until then, we would rather explain everything clearly than hide it in fine print.

What happens to your text

• You make a request to Paper AI, for example "summarize this page".
• The app builds the request with only your message and the text of the pages the AI needs to read to answer. The app shows what will be sent and how much it will spend before it starts.
• The request goes through our server, which checks your account, your Stars and your plan. We do not keep the content of the request or the answer.
• The server forwards the request to the AI model provider, which generates the answer and sends it back.
• The answer reaches your app. If the AI proposes changing a page, you see the before and after and approve it.

What never goes to the AI

• Password-protected pages.
• Group content, which is end-to-end encrypted.
• Paper Cloud files.
• Any page you did not choose, or that the AI asked to read and you did not allow.
• Your name, email and other account data. The request carries only the text it needs.

What we keep

We keep only usage numbers: when you asked, how many Stars it cost, how many tokens the provider measured and whether it worked. We also keep the date and the version of these terms you accepted. The text of requests and answers stays out of our hands.

Care and limits

• What the AI writes was generated by artificial intelligence, may contain errors or omissions and is for reference only. Check what matters, especially dates, amounts, health, law and money.
• Do not use the AI with anything highly sensitive: passwords, identity documents, health data or other people's information without their permission.
• Do not ask for sexually explicit content, content that sexualizes minors, that helps commit crimes or that violates other people's rights. Whoever insists may lose the account.
• The AI never changes your notes by itself. Everything it proposes waits for your approval, and Ctrl Z undoes it.
• To use Paper AI you declare that you are 18 or older, or that you have permission from whoever is responsible for you.

Paper Stars

Paper AI runs on Paper Stars. The cost of each request is calculated by our server from the measured usage, and the app only shows the result. Stars already used are not refunded, and the ones left are valid until the date shown in Settings. Whoever turns the AI on for the first time gets a welcome amount.

Your rights

You can withdraw your acceptance whenever you want, ask for information about the data we handle and ask questions by email at contato.brennoleon@gmail.com or through support. Since we do not keep the content of requests, there is no text of yours for us to delete. For requests to the provider, we give you their contact when you ask.
