Terms of Use
Paper Terms of Use
- Paper is in beta: free, working, and still changing.
- What you write is yours. We claim no rights over your notes.
- Your notes stay on your device and in your Drive. Keep copies: connect Drive or export from time to time.
1. Acceptance
By creating an account or using Paper, you agree to these Terms and to the Privacy Policy. If you don't agree, don't use the service. Paper is run by Israel de Jesus Silva, an individual. Contact: contato.brennoleon@gmail.com.
2. What the beta is
Paper is in open beta. This means that:
- use is free during the beta;
- features may change, be added or be removed;
- failures can happen, and we work to fix them quickly. The list of what we're improving is public inside the app, in “Road to 1.0”.
3. Your account
You sign in with a Google account. You're responsible for keeping that account safe and for everything done with it in Paper. If you notice misuse, use “Sign out everywhere” in Settings → Account and security and change your Google account password.
4. Your content
- Everything you write, import or create in Paper remains yours.
- The Paper server doesn't receive your personal notes, and group content arrives encrypted. We have no way to read it, use it to train systems or show it to anyone.
- You're responsible for what you write and what you keep in your Drive, including third-party rights over material you import.
5. Backups
Since notes stay on your device, clearing the browser's data, switching devices or losing the device can erase notes that weren't synced. To protect yourself:
- connect Google Drive in Settings → Sync; or
- export the notebook as .zip from time to time (Settings → Import and export).
We don't have a copy of your notes, so we can't recover what gets lost on your device.
5a. Groups and friends
- In a group, what you write is available to all members, who can edit, copy and export it. Think before putting something in a group.
- Whoever creates the group is the owner. The owner and admins invite, change roles and remove people. Read-only members don't edit.
- When you leave or are removed, you lose access to the group. What you wrote stays with the group.
- Beta limits: up to 100 people and 200 MB per group, 10 MB per attachment in groups and 30 groups created per person.
- Since the content is encrypted, we can't moderate or recover what's in groups. If you lose the key and nobody in the group can release it again, the content becomes inaccessible.
5b. Password pages
The password of a protected page is never sent or stored. If you forget it, nobody can open the page. There's no recovery.
6. Allowed use
You agree not to use Paper to:
- break laws or other people's rights;
- try to break into, overload or disrupt the site, the server or other people's accounts;
- automate mass access to the API or get around security limits;
- copy Paper's brand or look to deceive people;
- send friend requests or invites in bulk, or use groups to harass other people;
- publish by link content that is illegal, violates other people's rights or exposes third parties' data.
6a. API, tokens and fair use
- Use of the API and access tokens also follows the API Terms, which you accept when you turn on developer mode.
- Paper is a notebook. Don't use Paper, the API or published links as a database, message queue, file storage or image hosting for other sites.
- You're responsible for what you do with your tokens and for what programs and AI agents do with them.
6b. Bans
Violations of these Terms or of the API Terms lead to a permanent ban: login, tokens, published links and stored connections are cut off right away. A ban isn't reversed automatically; the only way is an accepted appeal. Your notes stay on your device and in your Drive.
7. Google services
Sign-in, Drive and Calendar are Google services and follow Google's terms. Paper uses the most restricted permissions available: only the files it creates itself in Drive and only the “Paper” calendar it creates itself.
8. Paid features
Paper remains free to use. Wire Cloud, optional storage of 10 GB for R$16 per month billed through Mercado Pago, isn't available yet. When it launches, its price, how to cancel and the right of withdrawal (art. 49 of Brazil's Consumer Protection Code) will be described before any charge.
9. Liability
We do our best for Paper to work well, securely and without losing anything. During the beta, the service is offered as is. To the extent allowed by Brazil's Consumer Protection Code, we aren't liable for losses caused by factors outside our control, such as failures of your device, your browser, your internet or Google's services, nor for content you delete yourself.
10. Termination
You can stop using Paper and delete your account whenever you want, in Settings → Account and security. We may suspend accounts that violate these Terms. If Paper shuts down, we'll give reasonable notice. Your notes stay with you, in open .md files.
11. Law and venue
These Terms follow Brazilian law. Disputes will be settled in the courts of your place of residence, as guaranteed by Brazil's Consumer Protection Code. When we change these Terms, the date at the top changes and we let you know inside the app before the change takes effect.
12. Who provides it and contact
Paper is provided by Israel de Jesus Silva, an individual, in Brazil. For questions about these Terms, write to contato.brennoleon@gmail.com or use the support page.
